Wooden Masks |
| Notes: |
Mesa, Arizona artist Zarco Guerrero is a man of many talents. As a visual artist, he is a mural painter, bronze sculptor and mask maker. As a performing artist, he wears his masks in his music, dance and theater performances. He is constantly trading faces.
Guerrero’s obsession with masks has lead him to study mask making throughout Asia and Mexico, learning from master wood-carvers. From these experiences, he blends various styles to create a wide variety of masks which reflects a world view of this art form. Thus far, he has created more than 1,000 masks.
This exhibition features wooden masks created by Guerrero. Inspired by various cultures and traditions from around the world, he carves, paints and embellishes them to amuse or awe the viewer.

Glass |
| Notes: |
Glass is an amazing and versatile material. It has been with us for thousands of years, and yet shows no signs of being exhausted in its possibilities or its surprises. For more than 10 years, Marty and Tess Scherer of Sedona, Arizona, have gathered glass objects in many styles, created by artists using various glass-working techniques.
The Scherers are “intrigued with the translucency and brilliance of glass, and the seemingly endless possibilities of artistic expression. Glass can be worked hot or cold. It can be blown, slumped or cast, and it can be carved. We also are captivated by the people working with glass that create these magnificent works. It is not just the finished work, but the artist that is important to us.”

Flowers and plantlife |
| Notes: |
Botanical art grows from the natural pleasure we derive from looking at flowers and plants. The gardener and artist have a temperamental kinship in that they both are observant, patient and in love with the colors and forms of nature.
Bodacious Botanicals highlights the balancing act between truth and beauty, a balance that the best artists are able to turn to splendid visual effect.
Artists: Pat Bailey, oil paintings; Linda Ingraham, photo constructions; Sandra Leuhrsen, sculptural ceramic teapots; Barbara Rogers, oil paintings

A series of Capes |
| Notes: |
“Art is the consuming passion of my life. I have always tried to manifest my creative vision through a wide variety of media and a diversity of materials.
While the content I work with is abstract — stimulated by the environment, culture and my own feelings — my creations represent a lifetime’s worth of attention to fine art and the mastering of textile crafts.
As an artist I believe that by shaping works to be worn as art, I am blending creative vision into our everyday lives. To me, this represents the power and significance of art.”
This series of capes has taken years to realize. Each cape is reversible and alike only in size and basic form. Each surface is executed in different combinations of materials and fiber techniques rich with layers of meaning and detail.

Aviation |
| Notes: |
Robert T. McCall, who lives in Paradise Valley, Arizona, flew as a bombardier for the Army Air Force in World War II. When he had time, he painted the scenes he saw and experienced. After the war, aircraft became McCall’s specialty.
“When the space program started going in the 1950s, it was a natural extension of my interest in flight and flying to go from airplanes to spacecraft.”
McCall has played a vital role in documenting the United States space program for more than 50 years, giving a unique insight into history-making advances in space.
In 2007, McCall was commissioned by the City of Phoenix to paint five portraits of Arizona aviation notables for inclusion in the Phoenix Airport Museum’s collection. This is the debut of those portraits.
