Tom Haas Gallery: Tom Haas

"My first experience as a plein air painter was truly memorable thanks to my friend and fellow artist Tom Haas.  Tom's amazing ability to capture the essence, atmosphere and light of even the most complex views with ease was remarkable to me....As a long time studio painter - I have gained great respect for plein air painters – and Tom is definitely on the top of my list."   Joni Falk, Fine Artist from Phoenix, Arizona

Tom's process includes painting on location to capture nature's light, color and form - and working in his studio to translate those qualities into larger paintings.

Though Arizona has been Tom’s home since 1960, he paints in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, California and other places that inspire him.  He delights in the freedom to pack his van at a moments notice and head out for a view of fresh fallen snow, shadows on a mountaintop, trees changing color or a desert sunset – without ties to art clubs or organizational issues that result in more talking than painting.  However, there are times when Tom enjoys meeting up with special friends like Joni Falk who appreciate the beauty of nature and painting outdoors as much as he does.

The National Park Academy of the Arts recognized Tom Haas as “being in the top echelon of representational artists working today” with its Award For Excellence in 2002, 2003 and 2004 – for paintings he did in the parks.  The large-scale pastoral scene by Tom that received Best of Show at the 2005 Anthem Festival of Fine Art was inspired by a small work painted on location in Colorado.  Haas has also “stand and delivered” at several Quick Draw auctions and demonstrations such as those held by the Phippen Museum.

The experience of working outdoors is what nourishes, prepares and motivates Haas to work prolifically in his studio as well.  All of his available paintings from small gems to large-scale vistas (that are still in the primary market) can be found at his studio/gallery.  Come and see for yourself!
