Celeste Mills (Feminine Mystique Art Gallery)
|
BIOGRAPHY Celeste Mills, Fine Silver Jewelry Artist Celeste Mills is a native Tucsonan. She had a strong creative desire as early as six years of age when her dad, who was an electrician, gave her wires and scraps to use to fashion necklaces and bracelets. Although she is primarily self-taught with a natural bent toward creating jewelry, she has taken classes in Metalsmithing. Celeste works with fine silver and engraves designs upon it freehand; she also uses semi-precious stones and wire-wraps the stones, creating beautiful earrings, necklaces and bracelets. The designs she engraves are frequently desert flowers and desert scenes. Sometimes she has created designs similar to the Mexican Talavera modes. When asked how she introduced her art to the public, she recounted that one day she entered a shop in Tucson, wearing one of her pieces, and the owner asked her about it and said she would like to carry her work in the shop. Also, she had worked at a well-known Tucson business and her co-workers began asking to purchase her jewelry…and that is how it progressed. Since then, she has distributed her designs in various shops, one of which is a Pet Boutique where she has developed pet I.D. designs. Apart from her jewelry work, Celeste paints using pastels. This is done for her own enjoyment, but she is quick to add that it is not something she envisions as a professional endeavor. Celeste’s delicate and beautiful jewelry designs may be seen and purchased at the Feminine Mystique Art Gallery, in Tubac, Arizona, an art community south of Green Valley, via I-19 at Exit 34. It is a wonderful place to spend a day or a weekend enjoying art of all types. |
