It’s not a Trick, Jerome Treats us, once again, to Fabulous Art
![]() The Artful Spirits of Jerome invite you to help kick off the event-packed month of October with the first Saturday Art Walk on October 6th. Starting at 5PM, the artists and galleries of Jerome will once again harvest the continually growing creativity of this quaint mountain town. Join us for an evening of amazing art, music and entertainment.
If you haven’t been “on Clark above the Park” lately, the Jeanne Michelle Studio and Fine Art Gallery is a must see. Past collectors are familiar with Michelle’s detailed bronze sculptures, fine gold and silver jewelry designs as well as her colorful Caribbean watercolors.
Michelle’s recent piece, Femme de la Mer, a full size torso mannequin, was created from precious stones, fresh water baroque pearls, foreign coins, family heirloom bone china and an antique porcelain doll face.
Michelle has started a collector’s sign up book for future torsos which will include both a dark complexioned male torso with “The Artist’s Studio” theme and similar Male and female torsos from objects collected at Marche aux Puces-- The Flea Market in Paris, France.
Michelle would be happy to create a torso using your family’s collectibles. Stop by her gallery at 403 Clark Street, Suites B10&B11, on Clark above the Park.
The American Landscape Gallery exclusively features the landscape photography of Tom Narwid along with a rare collection of original Hopi mixed media Artwork of their Kachina spirit beings. Tom has been photographing the Southwest and New England Landscape for 30 years. The gallery offers museum quality fine art Giclee prints in all sizes. This beautiful work is also presented with a unique and elegant mounting technique.
At Gallery 527, Mary Phoenix will be debuting her newest ceramic wall sconce, adorned with a perfect iguana. Also, a recent collaboration by acrylic painter Libby MacKinney and Polaroid Transfer artist Donna Chesler will be shown
for the first time. Ralo will be on hand with her own brand of improvisational music.
Pura Vida Gallery is proud to host a showing of Dawn Sutherland’s newest work. This show, titled “Sedona Rock Stars”, highlights Dawn’s most recent oil paintings of some of Sedona’s most notable red rock formations. Within just a few short years Dawn’s plein aire paintings have captured the attention of avid collectors who treasure the beauty of the Southwest desert landscape. Her paintings express the timelessness of the red rocks, the patience of the desert, and the surprise of brilliant flowers that appear in this arid climate. Dawn’s landscape paintings are known for their exceptional ability to capture light within the shadows, providing the viewer with a sense of being in the space, and communicating the warmth and solidity of the formations.
Dawn will be on hand from 5-8pm on the evening of the Art Walk to discuss her work. In addition, Pura Vida Gallery will host its infamous champagne and chocolate reception for the attendees. Pura Vida Gallery is located at 501 School Street in Jerome, just three doors down from the Red Rooster Café. You may reach the gallery at 634-0937.
The Spirit Art Gallery will be featuring Clarkdale watercolorist, Eleanor Mead. Eleanor has been painting for almost 40 years, with 20 of those here in Arizona. She is fascinated by rocks, and most of her landscapes capture cliff sides down to pebbles. Also showcased will be her sculptures and prints. Entertainment will be provided by Doug Downer, who has been entertaining in the Verde Valley for 20 years with bluegrass, country and folk music.
And, do you love cowboy poetry and cowboy art? Well-known cowboy and poet and artist Wyoming Pete will be signing his just-released book Wild Horse Mountain: Cowboy Poetry, Art and Stories at the Spirit Art Gallery during Art Walk. Spontaneous poetry performances may occur.
The Jerome Artists Cooperative Gallery will be hosting “Piece By Piece”, a show featuring calligrapher, Sid Freeman, and glass mosaic artist, Jeanine Sutherland. Both artists create complex visuals made up of smaller parts, bits and pieces, brightly colored broken glass, shells, words, patterns and washes of watercolor.
Sedona resident Sutherland, has worked in mosaics for six years and is often inspired by the colors and patterns of nature. Often times her mosaics serve as functional household elements such as mirrors, or plant & candle holders. She also does abstract pieces which are created with much spontaneity. Mostly self-taught, Sutherland always has her camera at the ready to record impressions for future projects.
Prescott Valley resident Sid Freeman is a professional calligrapher and artist Freeman’s inspiring calligraphic paintings are a blend of language, color and form, often times featuring powerful quotes and excerpts of important literature, mixed with imagery, color, and line, often times in an almost abstract fashion. For the “Piece By Piece” show she will also feature inscribed stones.
The “Piece by Piece” show will run through October 11th.
Don’t forget to swing by the Old Jerome High School, where over 15 artist studios are open until 9pm. These three buildings include the works of well-known landscape painter Mark Hemleben, sculpture artist Janie Anderson and fiber artist Vicki Day. Anderson-Mandette in Building C houses 5 working studios and several grand galleries devoted to the work of this unique couple.
Spirits OfJerome.com will be sponsoring an evening of performance poetry featuring the NORAZ (Northern Arizona) Poets. An hour of performance poetry will take place on the patio of the Sage Post and Jeanne Michelle Studio from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The performance will be followed by “Guerilla” poetry throughout various galleries in Jerome. The art of performance poetry puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus not only on what they're saying but how they're saying it. The poetry is engineered for the audience, and designed for the audience to react vocally and openly to all aspects of the works, including the poet's performance.
