Celebrations at Art on Boston

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos and Hispanic artists at Art on Boston in October, as the ¡Celebracion! exhibit features Susana Valenzuela’s embossed metal images of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Also on display and for sale will be abstract acrylic work on wood of Juan Rebelle and Steve Velazquez’ acrylics on canvas and wood.
In the Main Gallery, the contemporary mixed media work of Macrina Miller is shown, along with the Naked Raku ceramics of Lisa Harnish. Exhibits will continue for metal sculptor Kevin Caron, along with Wendy Fallon’s mixed media and Laurie Fagen’s fiber art, Art on Boston co-owners.
Art on Boston also welcomes mixed media artist Jacque Tobias as an in-studio resident, along with Ginger Stephens of Revolution Media, a corporate video producer.
New classes starting at Art on Boston include “Pink Ribbons & Roses Air-Dry Clay”by Marcia McGovern, where students will make a rose and ribbon pin for Breast Cancer Awareness month. That class is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sun., Oct. 14 for $45, which includes materials.
A “Freeform Peyote Bracelet” class will be led by Pamela Howard, where attendees will learn to construct a bracelet with arches, bridges, ruffles, and accent beads and embellishments using free form peyote technique. It will be held from 6-9 p.m. Fri., Oct. 12 for $55 plus $25 materials fee. Howard will also teach a Kumihimo Bracelet/Necklace class in the Japanese art of braiding cords, only in this case, using strands of beads and a Maru Dai loom. It’s for beginners with no prior beading experience needed, and will be held from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 27 for $55 plus $30 materials fee or a supply list.
“Creative Adventures in Fiber” with Judy Berry and Evelyn Link continues on the second Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11. Shiva Oil Paintstix will be the technique of the day. The fiber artist series is $180 for 6 months, or $40 per class with a $15 materials fee.

Wendy Fallon teaches “Tiffany Stained Glass” from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sun., Oct. 14 where adults 18 years and older learn stained glass techniques using copper foil, shells, sea glass, and more to make holiday ornaments, jewelry and gifts. The cost of $60 includes all materials & use of tools.
